The Listening Hare

The Listening Hare
© Sue Wookey
Here is a new painting for all you hare lovers (and I know that there are a lot of us!). The Listening Hare developed from a simple painting of a hare with the moon to a piece about the value of quietness and listening to the subtle flow of life all around us. Hares are always so alert, paying attention to the smallest sound and movement. I wanted to capture that alertness and also those moments of complete stillness which come between bursts of activity.

I've painted it as a companion piece to my Moon Horse (like the Moon Horse you can almost see the harvest moon shining through the hare's ears) and have put in a little hill figure of a hare. The words around the border were written by me to reflect the meaning of the painting:

Love silence and listen, as the hare does, to the quiet reaching upwards of the grass and the drum of the full moon rolling over the round hill.

The original of The Listening Hare has already sold, but the painting is available as a limited edition giclee print from my Galley Hill Art website.

Garden and Landscape Art Exhibition at Luton Hoo

The Green Lady
© Sue Wookey
This week is the Third Annual Open Art Exhibition at Luton Hoo Walled Garden:
"105 local and national artists exhibiting "garden and landscape inspired" works. Come and see their masterpieces; buy original art works to decorate your home; watch artists demonstrating their skills and see what pupils from 20 local schools have created to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Secret Garden."
This year the Exhibition is sponsored by the Artists Network Bedfordshire, and I've submitted my Green Lady (above) as my 'masterpiece' (!), as she looked suitably floral for the Garden and Landscape theme! The Exhibition will be really worth visiting if previous years are anything to go by and is open on:

Friday 16th March: 12 noon - 7pm
Saturday 17th March: 11am - 5pm
Sunday 18th March: 11am - 5pm

Full details on the Walled Garden Website.

Icknield Exhibition and Craft Fair

 Temple of the Moon
© Sue Wookey

Just a reminder that it's all happening at Icknield School, Luton, this week. The Local Artists Exhibition has opened at the Red Dot Gallery and runs until 25 March. It's open every weekday except Wednesdays from 8.30am to 4.30pm. I have my 'Leave it all Behind' and 'Temple of the Moon' in the exhibition, which is a great local showcase.

And this Saturday (the 10th) the School has an Arts and Crafts Fair from 12pm - 4pm. I shall be setting up my stall there with originals and framed prints, unframed prints and cards.

Full details of both events can be found at the Red Dot Gallery site.
